At Island Physiotherapy in Cowes we prioritise our clients care above all else. We work as a team with other allied health practitioners and specialists to achieve your goals and get you back to what you love.
Island Physiotherapy & Clinical Pilates team. Casey Cleeland, Kara Cassells, Kristine Miles and Janice D'Souza

Established in 2009

Island Physiotherapy & Clinical Pilates opened at Coastal Health, Phillip Island in 2009. Kara Cassells began the business working as a sole trader and has since expanded the team to incorporate physiotherapists Casey Cleeland, Holly Thompson and Kristine Miles.

Our Goal

We are committed to provide leading physiotherapy services to the Bass Coast area. We are dedicated to engage with our clients and work together to solve any problem that is presented. Our staff are always working hard to ensure that our clients are satisfied and their goals are met.

Our Team

Kara Cassells Physiotherapist

Kara Cassells
Physiotherapist

Kara graduated from a bachelor of physiotherapy in 2005 with honours. Kara was born on Phillip Island and had ambition to become a physiotherapist from a young age completing work placements with the local physiotherapist at the time. Kara danced for over 16 years and has a keen interest in dance and other sporting injuries. This has further developed into a passion for rehabilitation using the pilates method.
Kara has completed further studies in the McKenzie method to manage lower back and neck pain and has also qualified as a clinical pilates instructor. Through experience as a practitioner and further training Kara has developed a strong interest in chronic pain management. A combination of exercise and a manual therapy based approach proves to be very effective in the management of many injuries and chronic pain.
Further to this training Kara has also qualified in the management of many women's and men's health conditions.

Casey Cleeland
Physiotherapist

Casey Graduated from Latrobe University in 2007 and went to work in a large private practice specialising in sports, musculoskeletal and industrial physiotherapy. Casey has experience working with elite athletes and sporting clubs around Melbourne. She worked as a physiotherapist at Gippsland Power Football Club for two seasons and at the Junior ITP tennis tournament in Traralgon for five years.
Casey also has special interest and has completed further training in women's health including the pelvic floor and pregnancy related conditions.
Casey grew up on Phillip Island and went to Newhaven College before studying Physiotherapy. Her hobbies include playing and umpiring netball alongside parenting her young family.

Kristine Miles
Physiotherapist

Kristine graduated from LaTrobe University in 1996 and spent the first 12 years of her career working in private practice in Melbourne, and 3 years in the UK.  During this time, she was a trainer and physiotherapist for an Australian Rules football club for 6 years, and worked hard consolidating her sports, spinal, post-operative rehabilitation, and Clinical Pilates experience.
In 2008, Kristine moved back to Phillip Island, having been to school here, and continued working in private practice, before joining the team at Island Physiotherapy & Clinical Pilates in 2018.
Kristine’s special interest areas include the shoulder, lower limb biomechanics, management of complex spinal conditions, nutrition, and women’s health, particularly in the field of breastfeeding and lactation. Kristine is a credentialed McKenzie method physiotherapist, and trained in musculoskeletal acupuncture and Clinical Pilates. She is also a best-selling author of three books.
Kristine lives locally with her young family, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and being part of the community, and loves people with a great sense of humour.

Janice D'Souza
​​Physiotherapist

Janice graduated from Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2014 from India and worked in a hospital for 15 months involving cardiorespiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. She then moved to Australia and completed her Masters in Advanced Clinical Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal) in 2016 from University of South Australia.

Janice worked in a large private practice clinic in Adelaide specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, dry needling and clinical pilates. Her special interests include chronic pain management, dry needling and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Janice loves Indian dancing, reading thriller novels and trekking.
